WSSC Talks About Our Drinking Water

Joe Johnson, WSSC Chief Superintendent for Potomac Water Treatment Plant, will speak January 31 about the treatment plant, its intake on the Potomac River below the Muddy Branch, and the impact on our drinking water. The facility treats the water that eventually comes out of our taps to strict EPA standards. Join GO GREEN group and the Muddy Branch Alliance to learn about the connects between our drinking water and the stormwater runoff from our lawns.

KidServe: Kids Partnering with Grown-ups to Serve

Now that the holidays are over and New Year’s resolutions have been made, how about resolving to get your entire family involved in community service?  Too hard to get started?  Not enough time?  KidServe is designed to make serving simple and fun for the whole family.  Come join us and see for yourself.  You and your kids will love getting together to “practice” serving.  Who knows?  Our next service project may be the one you and your family think up!

The Kentlands Community Foundation is pleased to announce the formation of a new community volunteer group:  KidServe.  The mission of this group is

  • To partner kids and grownups in their families to serve in our local and global communities;
  • To seek out kid-friendly service opportunities;
  • To develop a culture of service in families and promote the intrinsic value of serving;
  • To empower kids to organize and lead service events.

KidServe welcomes kids ages 5-13 and their parents, grandparents, babysitters or other grownups in their lives to come out to our 6 group service events for 2012.  We’ve left room for other activities you may be inspired to organize.  Come join us for our kick-off event on February 12, 2012 at the Kentlands Clubhouse from 3-4:30pm.  If you have questions, contact us at:  kidserve@yahoo.com or 301-208-8766.
