The 19th Annual Kentlands/Lakelands 5K Run, Walk and Kid’s Fun Runs will take place on Saturday, September 1 starting at 8 am on Main Street near the Kentlands/Lakelands Market Square Plaza. This is a USATF certified course, offering live entertainment and 2 water stops to participants as they wind through the award-winning new urbanist communities of the Kentlands and Lakelands.
The Race will be run “Rain or Shine”. However, the Race Committee reserves the right to cancel, post-pone or run the Race as an untimed “fun run” due to severe weather, or other dangerous unforeseen race conditions without advanced notice. No refunds will be given.
From the Beltway (495), take 270 North to Exit 9B Sam Eig Hwy/370W. Take Sam Eig Hwy 1.5 miles to Great Seneca Hwy. Turn Right on Great Seneca Hwy and follow for 2.5 miles to Kentlands Blvd. Turn Left onto Kentlands Blvd. Take the first Left into the Bally’s parking lot or the 3rd Left into the Whole Foods Market parking lot, which are both within a block of Market Square Plaza where Registration and the Post-Race Expo are all located.
In order to ensure the safety of all race participants, race streets will be closed to parking before & during the race, and car traffic will be restricted 12 AM-12 PM on SATURDAY September 1. IF you need to drive before 11 AM, please MOVE your car to a location that is not in a “tow-away zone” on FRIDAY SEPT 1 (options include: Lakelands Park MS, Lakelands Park Parking Lot past Kersten St, Rachel Carson ES, Kentlands Blvd, and the Whole Foods or Bally’s parking lots).
*** Cars left on the course after 12 am on Race Day will be towed at the owner’s expense and left behind Michael’s Crafts. Please see the “5K No Parking Map” , and plan accordingly.***
If you reside on the following streets, please plan for the parking restrictions and access limitations that will briefly affect you on Saturday, September 1 6-10 am on Race Day morning.
The Kentlands Community Foundation realizes the need to restrict parking and close streets during the Race may inconvenience some residents & local merchants. Race Day Registration -
Advanced registration packets may be picked up, and last minute registrations ($35) will be accepted from 6:30-7:45 am sharp on Race Day in Market Square Plaza. The Registration Tent will be located in Market Square Plaza between Market Street West, Market Street East, and Center Point Way (by Star Diner) in the Kentlands neighborhood. No refunds will be given and Team registrations will not be accepted on Race Day.

Kids Fun Runs $12
Registration for children under 14 in either the 200 m Tot Trot or 500 m Kids Dash is $12. T-Shirts, goody bags and awards are not guaranteed for late registrations.
Family Team Competition
Runners may choose to compete as individuals and as part of a 2-person Team in one of the following categories at no additional charge: Father/Son, Father/Daughter, Mother/Son, Mother/Daughter, Husband/Wife, Sister/Brother, Brother/Brother, Sister/Sister
Each team member must complete an individual 5K run entry form, pay an individual race entry fee, enter the EXACT SAME team name, and submit their forms together. Teams must pre-register and no Race Day Team registrations will be accepted.

Maryland Senior Olympic Event Host
As in 2011 the Maryland Senior Olympics will be a beneficiary for the 5K race. More than 200 MSO participants are expected. Note: All Maryland State residents age 50 or older as of December 31, 2010 who register to run the 5K event will automatically be entered to compete as a Maryland Senior Olympic entrant in this year’s race.
We are employing a transponder (chip) timing system this year. Chip timing provides runners with a more pleasant finishing experience, and it enables quicker and more accurate race scoring. We still require all participants to wear a bib number for safety identification and for finish line recognition.
We will distribute CHIPS at packet pickup and on race day. You must attach the chip to your shoe via your shoelaces or with optional twist ties which we provide. We will collect your chip at the finish line. You may not use your personally-owned chip. It is not compatible with the IPICO Sports transponder we are using. If you pick up a chip and do not return it within three days of the race, we must charge you $25.00 for replacement. Be sure to wear your chip on your shoe to be timed and scored.
