New 5k Race Course Announced for Kentlands/Lakelands 5K Run/Walk in Gaithersburg
NOTE: New Parking Restrictions on Race Day September 1, 2007
Gaithersburg, MD - The race course for the 14th annual 5K Run/Walk in Kentlands/Lakelands Community, September 1, 2007, has changed this year. The new course is designed to highlight the attributes of both new urbanism designed communities, Kentlands and Lakelands, and better showcase local merchants.
"Now," says Steve Solbeck, Race Director and Lakelands resident, "we can offer participants easier access to the start and finish lines, but also enhance the overall quality of the race with a new route, entertainment and more opportunities for our sponsors."
It is important to note that the new course map designates areas where Kentlands, and Lakelands residents and guests will not be able to park on race day, September 1, 2007. See attached map of new race course and parking restrictions.
The new route gives greater equal representation of the Kentlands and Lakelands neighborhoods. The Lakelands route will pass by the: Lakelands Clubhouse, Lakelands Park Middle School, the new synagogue, Shaare Torah, and several of the Lakeland's beautiful parks. The new course also winds through many of the Kentlands key civic buildings and spaces, giving participants the chance to experience the award winning community.
The start and finish of the race has changed to Main Street, where various local merchants have their shops and businesses. The Kentlands Community Foundation hopes that this will help to further strengthen partnerships with Main Street merchants in the future.
