Join the Kentlands Community Foundation Artist Registry!
Our community is full of incredibly talented individuals and the Kentlands Community Foundation would like to be able to provide a resource to the community for how to locate these special neighbors. As a result, we are starting a registry of artists and teachers of the arts in our community. If you are an artist and/or teacher of the arts, be it visual or performing, complete the registry form and mail it or bring it by the Foundation or Clubhouse office. We will add your information to our database and make it easier for the community to better utilize your talents.
These programs, and more in the offing, result from the energy and inspiration of our volunteers. If you'd like to help in planning, or meet other folks who enjoy the arts, please call us at 301-926-6636 or e-mail us.
Groups
The Kentlands Community Foundation is a community-based, not-for-profit organization rooted in Kentlands. The Foundations mission has three branches:
- to serve as an educational resource on the landmark new urbanist community that is Kentlands,
- to build community by supporting local arts and cultural programs, and
- to provide opportunities for volunteerism and community outreach.
When the covenants governing Kentlands were drawn up, the Citizens Assembly (the Kentlands homeowner's association) was established to manage the governmental and administrative requirements of this community. The Kentlands Community Foundation is a completely separate organization from the Citizens Assembly. It was designed to be the group that could take a broader cultural and social view and focus on fostering community as it relates to Kentlands and the connecting communities in which we work, raise our families, vote, attend school, and extend a helping hand.
The Foundation's governmental structure has a Board of Directors, which oversees Foundation activities and policies. Members are appointed from the Gaithersburg/Montgomery County government, business, arts, and town planning communities, and from the residents of Kentlands.
The Committees are:
The New Urbanism Committee
This committee was responsible for creating the Kentlands Map, and conducts the Walking Tour of the Kentlands. We have other exciting programs planned, including the design of a Kentlands Museum within the Carriage House, and the launch of Box City, a town-planning workshop for children and families.
The Volunteer and Community Outreach Committee
This Committee had its inaugural meeting November, when it broke ground on creating a directory of community service opportunities within the Greater Gaithersburg area. If you want to be involved in promoting and participating in volunteerism in any way, this is the committee for you!
The Arts & Culture Committee
This Committee is redesigning the Foundation website and has several programs in development, including an art show bringing floral designs together with paintings and a musical competition for youth. If you have any interests in the arts visual, musical, film this would be a great committee to join.
The Foundation believes that the neighborhood is the heart of community life. Our goal is to help connect individuals and families in ways that enhance everyday life and encourage civic involvement. All programs are open to the public, and volunteers are always welcome. For more information or to learn about lending a hand, contact the Foundation office at 301.926.6636 or e-mail us.
