A Man for All Seasons

Directed by Andrew Harasty

This tragic historical drama offers a brilliant portrait of Sir Thomas More in his last years as Lord Chancellor of England during the reign of Henry VIII. When Henry fails to obtain papal approval for a divorce from Catherine of Aragon to marry Anne Boleyn, he mandates his subjects to sign an “Act of Supremacy” making him both spiritual and temporal leader of England. Sir Thomas cannot in good conscience comply. Cromwell, Cardinal Wolsey, his family, and the King himself are all unable to convince More otherwise, as he maintains his integrity and belief in silence. Ultimately accused of high treason, this very silence leads the man to his execution, and later his canonization in 1935.

Wine Club. October

Our theme for next Friday's meeting is "Boxed Wine vs. Bottled Wine." We're sure you've all encountered the now-ubiquitous 3-litter box of wine at the County liquor store or your corner beer and wine store. And maybe you've even used them for parties or large family gatherings. But despite their growing popularity, they still carry a bit of a stigma.

Boxed wine is thought to be cheap, uninteresting wine that's meant for quaffing indiscriminately. But in fact, some very good wines are now packaged in the 3L box (more accurately described as a "bag in a box"). This packaging not only provides a cost-effectively large volume of wine (the equivalent of 4 normal bottles), but also offers a preservation system that lets you dispense wine from the package over a long period of time without it spoiling. Because the wine is contained in an airtight plastic bag inside the box, it lets users pour from the bag without exposing the remaining wine to air, preserving it almost indefinitely!

So next Friday we will provide two wines for comparison--a red and a rose--the same wine packaged both in a box and in a bottle. And you can compare for yourself. Can you detect a difference in the taste of the wine poured from the box or the bottle? If so, do you have a preference?
