Our mission is to promote sustainability and environmental stewardship through education, community involvement, and practical initiatives

GO GREEN Group

Founded in 2007, the Kentlands Go Green Group has been a driving force behind environmental awareness and sustainable practices in our community. Through education, advocacy, and hands-on initiatives, we work to ensure that Kentlands, local businesses, and surrounding neighborhoods prioritize sustainability and implement eco-friendly practices.

Plogging Initiative

Embracing the Swedish trend of plogging—a combination of jogging and picking up litter—we encourage community members to participate in keeping our neighborhood clean while staying active. Students can visit the Kentlands Clubhouse during working hours to borrow pickup sticks, buckets, and bags for plogging activities.

    • Kentlands HOA Green Team is one of the first three HOA-led sustainability teams in Maryland.

    • Works on implementing environmentally friendly policies and initiatives in partnership with Sustainable Maryland and the Chesapeake Bay Trust.

  • SSL Hours for Students:

    • Students can borrow pickup sticks from the Kentlands Clubhouse and clean up trash to earn Student Service Learning (SSL) hours.

  • Secured a grant to establish an educational Pollinator Garden in Kentlands, promoting biodiversity and pollinator-friendly landscaping.

  • Hosting screenings of environmental documentaries, followed by discussions with directors and local officials:
    🎬 A Chemical Reaction (IMDb)
    🎬
    Ground War (IMDb)

  • Hosting experts on topics such as:

    • Solar roofs & geothermal units

    • Incorporating native plants into landscaping

    • Minimizing salt use to protect waterways

  • Community-wide cleanup every April, encouraging residents to participate in Earth Month activities.

  • Each year, we plant hundreds of daffodils throughout the community to beautify public spaces and promote pollinator-friendly practices.

  • Working with the HOA to establish a community-wide composting program for residents.

  • Successfully transitioned all Kentlands HOA-managed green spaces to organic maintenance, eliminating harmful chemicals.
